How much does it cost Nike to create a pair of their sneakers?

Nike outsources their product, then charges high prices here. Why doesn't the government penalize the company, why do fools continue to purchase the shoes?|||It costs NIKE $5 to make a pair of sneakers...

NIKE shoe production

in the Third World: The facts

Indonesian workers make $2.46 a day

10,000 Indonesians went on strike to protest wages that are below subsistence level.

"If I don't work overtime, I can't survive," says Baltazar at PT Hasi Nike factory in Jakarta. He works an average of 40 overtime hours a week.

Vietnamese workers make $l.60 a day

1,300 workers at the Sam Yang factory went on strike to demand a one cent per hour raise in wages. Other issues include excessive and illegal overtime and compensation for working with hazardous material.

Chinese workers make $1.75 a day

There is no minimum wage in China and when abuses are discovered, the whole factory disappears. "The supervisors will get nervous and move the work to another province. It's impossible to monitor factory conditions," says Asia Monitor Resource Center in Hong Kong.

You pay over $100 for shoes that cost less than five dollars to make.

http://www.thirdworldtraveler.com/Boycot鈥?/a>|||First of all, every single piece of Nike equipment was made in a Chinese sweatshop where people are overworked and underpaid. Knowing that I think most people should boycott Nike for just that. They get all their supplies wholesale just like every other manufacture. I bet it only costs them around $6-7 and then they have to pay the shipping cost on the giant cargo ship which is probably an additional dollar per pair of shoes. After that it gets sent to a shipment warehouse somewhere in the States where they pay their employees around 10-15 an hour to organize and load the boxes of shoes onto a semi-truck where of course the trucking company has to make some money too. Then it finally gets sent to the retailer where they have to make a profit too. After all that is said and done, they have to sell the pairs of shoes for around 40-60 dollars a pair to make enough money to keep the retail store operating.|||It's the Brand name i disagree with you though Nike has many many many many affordable shoes even down to about like 20 bucks a pair

Yea if you want the New shoes you're going to pay top dollar but if you can afford to wait you can easily nab a good pair for much less

I don't see the problem every other shoe company does the same thing? just don't be tricked into buying the newest pair|||Depends on the shoe and country of origin. But no more than 6.50. There used to be intense tariffs on this type of exploitation, but sadly the US has bought into the WTO.
