The metal piece on my nike hat got corroded? What can i do to remove the corrosion?

The hat was in water for such a long time, that the metal nike piece got corroded? Its my favourite hat! How can i fix it?|||It isn't corroded. The decorative metallic paint has been removed. Other than re-spraying a metallic paint, it can't be "restored".|||if it's real metal i'd suggest mother polish and fine steel wool.takes rust of chrome pretty good.
